The grounds are stunning, with flowers everywhere and several spots to sit by the lake with a coffee. We walked around it and paddled on it with the SUP we brought from home. The fish in the lake are pets, so fishing there isn’t allowed, though there’s a point by the beach where you can fish. We also walked each day along the very tidal beach and inlet, which had spectacular sunsets. The location worked out really well between Smithton and Stanley, making quick trips for milk and bread or day drives easy. We came up from Hobart for a weekend with my partner and our dog, and loved the stay. We booked the pet friendly accommodation through its own website after finding it while filtering Airbnb. We paid the extra $100 pet bond, which was refunded when we left. The hosts also manage the crayfish creek caravan site and replied quickly to my emails about bringing stand up paddle boards for the lake. The older couple living at the property and caring for it were friendly and answered our questions. They explained the sensible dog rules clearly: keep dogs on a lead, don’t leave them alone, and keep them off the furniture. When we got a flat tire out Arthur River way on a Saturday afternoon and couldn’t find an open mechanic, the hosts were amazing. They contacted someone they knew in Smithton who helped us a lot. Thank you so much, carolyn and chris. Our spa cabin was very clean and had everything we needed. We used the front bedroom for storage and as a wardrobe. It showed the general wear and tear you’d expect in a cabin over 20 years old. The kitchen was compact, simple and practical, with well kept cookware that made cooking in an unfamiliar kitchen easy. It had a mini oven, microwave and two hot plates, which we used to cook steaks and roast potatoes each night.

The lake is amazing, with our own jetty, and the beach isn’t usable, though black swans regularly visit, which is a lovely bonus. We’re enjoying our four night stay. Everything is provided and very clean, and we love the quiet, beautiful gardens and interesting surroundings. Thanks for a unique stay, we love it.

Such a beautiful place to stay, and dog friendly too. We had a lovely night here, and the owners were very friendly. Since it was my partner’s birthday, they were happy to arrange flowers and chocolates in the room. Thank you so much.

We were told the day before where to find the key, so the fact that nobody was at reception was okay. But when we opened the room, the smell of mould hit us immediately. There was black mould on the bathroom blind and woodwork. We tried airing the place out and going for a drive, but the smell had got into everything. I’m asthmatic, so staying there could definitely have been a problem. I spoke to the owner about it and found her rude and unhelpful. Eventually the caretaker came to inspect the cabin. He said he was a smoker and might not smell it, but agreed it smelled bad, and we showed him the mouldy blind. We then contacted our booking agent, who called the owner, but the owner denied there was any issue with the room. We left out of pocket and had to find somewhere else at 5pm with a young child in tow. Very disappointing. I’ll be reporting this business to the hotels association. Save your money and health and give this one a miss.

What a dream, with the lake and bush all around and such a lovely view. The cabins were neat, tidy, and quiet, and the owners were really friendly. My partner and I were very impressed after our night there. We could easily live here ourselves, and we’ll definitely come back. I’d highly recommend staying.
