BIG4 Strahan Holiday Retreat

We booked a cabin and it was beautiful, clean and neat, with everything we needed. All the staff were friendly and helpful, and the laundry room was clean and tidy too. The dryer actually got my clothes dry! The Gordon River premium cruise was excellent, and we’ll definitely come back to ride the train.

Our unpowered campsite was a long way from the amenities and camp kitchen, which was especially inconvenient with children. We didn’t feel comfortable staying here as a family, and the facilities were disappointing. The toilets weren’t clean, toilet paper was on the floor, the soap dispensers were empty, and the paper towels were poor quality. These basics matter at a holiday park. The camp kitchen was also not very clean, and its fridge was around 12°C, far too warm for storing food safely. This park may suit backpackers or short stays better, but we didn’t find it comfortable or well set up for families. Based on our experience, it didn’t meet the standard we expected from a BIG4 park.

The staff were friendly enough at check-in, and our children loved the playground, but we wouldn’t recommend this park or return. As BIG4 members, we expected a better standard. Our powered site was tiny, with no room to set up a table and chairs for the family to eat. The amenities were awful, with floors constantly dirty. There were only two unisex toilets and showers for seven powered sites, while another small amenities block further up served a large number of other powered sites. It was tricky getting young children to the toilet, especially after dark. The camp kitchen was the worst we’ve come across, very small, with minimal amenities, basically just a crap shack. The Wi-Fi hardly worked too.

We needed a wheelchair-friendly cabin and got a two-bedroom one. It was clean, comfortable and accessible, with great location and amenities. I wouldn’t hesitate to book again if I’m down that way.
