That evening, the cinnamon granola smell was the first thing that made the place feel special. The owners were so welcoming, and breakfast was cooked fresh and delicious. The building itself is beautiful and has a really warm feel. We had a great stay.

The host was lovely, and breakfast was a treat: homemade bread, baked oats, yogurt, spiced apples and honey, plus a cooked breakfast just how I like it. The afternoon tea was delicious too, with real leaf tea and cooked shortbread. I loved how comfortable the rooms were and how much care had gone into the decor and atmosphere. Highly recommend.

The rooms and shared living space had a great old world feel, and Cameron and Judie were perfect hosts. They knew the area well and gave us some great tips. Most of what we ate and drank was homemade, and anything that wasn’t was as local as possible. I could happily eat those breakfasts again and again. Thanks!

We ended up making good use of the lounge rooms since it rained both days, and they were a lovely place to relax. The bedroom was elegantly arranged, and Cameron and Jodie were very helpful. We had a thoroughly enjoyable two-night stay and would definitely come back.

Breakfast alone would be reason enough to stay at Schouten House. The bread, baked on site the night before, was incredible with the eggs, bacon and sides. Pancakes need to be requested the night before. We were sorry to leave, especially since the next stop on our lap of Tasmania felt like a letdown by comparison. Our schedule was fixed, so we spent our time in St Helens wishing we could have stayed longer. For the price, my wife and I felt almost guilty getting such lovely accommodation and service. After a day out exploring, eating and drinking, it was so nice to come back to a welcoming place. We had a long chat in the reading room before an early night, ready for that breakfast. Cameron and Jodie made us feel right at home and shared valuable tips for the Freycinet and East coast that really improved our daily outings. The individual rooms were charming, each with its own ensuite, and the beds were comfortable and full of character. Inside, the house feels tasteful and welcoming. When you first arrive, the beautiful front door of this lovely 1840s house catches your eye, though taller people may need to duck a little. I can’t recommend Schouten House highly enough for a memorable, enjoyable stay in or near Swansea.
