Barrys Beach Road Hotel

The hallway smelled of alcohol, and I saw cockroaches in the inner courtyard, though not in the room. The place sits above two bars and two clubs, and it was noisy until 1am. Room 6 has a connecting door to room 5, so you may hear everything the people there say or do and end up with a long night. The bathroom window is held open with metal parts to avoid moisture. If it rains, you can’t close it and rain gets inside, which is ridiculous. The location is nice, but this is a weird hotel. I definitely won’t stay here again.

There’s a club right below, and the music comes through so loudly it feels like you’re in the room with it. It goes on until 1:00 a.m., so this feels more like a party house than a quiet getaway. The location is great, but I wouldn’t choose it for a peaceful stay. If you’re after nightlife it might suit you, otherwise I’d look elsewhere.

We slept soundly and enjoyed the stay a lot. The room was superb, the bathroom lovely and the location great. Yes, it’s above a pub, but if you didn’t know that when booking, that’s on you, stoopid! In our opinion, the current rating is unfair. Five stars, we’d stay again.

The staff were the best part, all wonderful and helpful. I also liked using the app instead of keys. The hotel is in a good spot, with plenty of places to eat nearby, and the hotel below was good. The room was clean and well appointed, and the bathroom had a hot rainforest shower. I’d have given five stars if there were a lift. Three flights of stairs were a bit much for my old legs. A chair would also work better than the bench seat, since the TV is above it and impossible to watch unless you sit on the bed.
