I’ve stayed here many times over the years while photographing the scuba trail at Gordons Bay for world sofa org. Back in the old days, the restaurant had a delicious cook-your-own steak deal. The steaks sizzled away, the salads were crunchy, and your steak came out just how you wanted it. My favorite part was chatting with people from all over the world while it cooked. One time, we got talking with a guy from Scotland, but my friends from Ireland and Glasgow couldn’t make out much of what he was saying either. He was about 7 feet tall, with an accent unlike anything we’d heard. I think he was speaking English, and we got by with lots of smiling. Since then, the Chinese restaurant across from the pub has become a Turkish place, a fruit bar, and a North Indian diner with superb curries. The Hotel’s huge, gorgeous restaurant is still excellent, with seats to suit everyone, whether you want to avoid the cold, heat, or a certain wind direction, or sit near or far from the bar. The pool tables are still there too, which is good news for players. Places to stay nearby range from hostels to as many stars as you could want. Some of the older rooms at the front have carpet and can be noisy. You can ask for a room with an opening window or a quiet one. They also let me park out back for free when I arrived late one night. Hope you enjoy your visit! Rusty :D

The prices feel incredibly high. They advertise schooners at $6, but during happy hour they’re actually $9.50. The security staff are rude and awful, and can get quite physical, especially later at night. The seating is decent and the view is acceptable. It’s hard to compare, though, since this seems to be the only bar in the suburb. The Coogee bay hotel also has a bad history, including the legal case involving a staff member who shat in someone’s icecream. With so few bars around, it’s one of the only options if you don’t want to pick up drinks at the nearby bottle shop and head up the hill. Some days it’s a fallback option.

We didn’t stay at the hotel this time, but the food was awesome. We missed breakfast by half an hour, so went for a club sandwich instead. Laura welcomed us at the front desk with a big smile and made us comfortable throughout. The service was spot-on, courteous, and really friendly. Stop by to say hello and enjoy the big screen 🖥️

We left full and happy after a satisfying meal at Coffee Bay Hotel. The food was really good, and the portions were generous, so it felt like good value for money.

The pub had a fantastic atmosphere, with great food and drinks. Our room above it was just perfect, clean, pretty, and nicely styled, and very comfortable. The check-in staff were helpful and accommodating, and the hotel parking was a great price.
