Discovery Parks - Lane Cove

We keep coming back from Melbourne to visit family in Sydney, and this caravan park is one of the reasons we enjoy the trip. The staff and management have always been warm, professional and very helpful. We especially look forward to catching up with Sharon at reception. She’s courteous, genuine and always keen to accommodate us. Everyone else in the office has been just as friendly. The park feels miles from town, even though the metro is close by and makes getting into Sydney easy. We leave our motorhome on site. Set within Lane Cove National Park, it has lovely flora, birdlife and walks, and the amenities are well looked after each day.

The M1 Metro line makes it quite convenient to get into the city, and the setting is lovely. The park is in the middle of significant upgrades, so at the moment none of the camping sites have power, though the amenities, camp kitchen and cabins do. We took the $20 site offer as a chance to put our upgraded solar system through its paces. It should be amazing once the work is finished. It’s a shame dogs aren’t allowed, since we won’t be able to come back once we have dogs again.

The kids especially loved the swimming pool. It was a bit cold, but a great way to cool down after a bush walk on a hot day. The walks were fun and easy to access, and we saw lots of kookaburras, water dragons and cockatoos. The bathrooms were decent but could do with an upgrade. Nearby shops are handy if you’ve forgotten anything, and the amenities include a fridge, gas stove, electric grill, sink and laundry area, which we didn’t use. We stayed two nights on powered sites with two other families, with children aged 0-6. Reception kindly arranged for us to stay near each other, and the flat tent platform made things more comfortable. The park was quiet, which was nice, though we parents were chatting after 10pm when another camper came over around 10:40 to tell us about the noise curfew. We didn’t think we were being loud, and our kids were sleeping right beside us. It seemed some people may have been living at the campsite. Check-in was easy. Since we arrived after 6pm, we received a code with the map and entry instructions. We were packed up before 10am at checkout, but stayed a little longer for group photos, and the staff were nice about it and didn’t hurry us out.

We had to change our dates because flooding where we were staying meant we couldn’t reach Discovery Park for our planned check-in. Sharon at reception was quick, polite and professional, and happily helped us rearrange. Check-in itself was smooth and easy. Our Deluxe Safari Tent was spacious, modern and family friendly, with a porch and BBQ. It was immaculate and really clean at first glance, but when putting the kids to bed we found brown stains on one bed’s sheets and mold on the other bed’s sheets. We used our own spare bedding. There was also a large dead cockroach in the box with tea, sugar and hot chocolate in the kitchen, which was off-putting. The surroundings are beautiful, the staff were great, and the tent was new, clean and spacious. Wifi worked well, and the TV had Netflix, Disney and Prime, which the kids liked. The pool was quite cold and could use heating, but we still enjoyed swimming while we were there. We’d like to try the Deluxe 2 bedroom cabins next time.
