Doherty Leura Gardens Resort

We brought our two little Westies, and having a room with a back courtyard worked brilliantly. The staff at LGR made the stay lovely, and dinner was wonderful, with a good buffet spread at breakfast too. The rooms were clean and roomy, the beds comfortable, and the new owners have done a great job. I booked Leura Gardens Resort after 50 years because I had fond memories, and it lived up to them. I’ve stayed in plenty of hotels, and this one is very good. Highly recommend.

The garden is the standout, it’s stunning. The hotel is a bit out of the way, though, so you’ll need to drive to get food or wherever else you’re going. Rooms are decent, but noise carries from neighboring rooms and upstairs, including footsteps and showers. Since the car park sits in the middle of the complex, you’ll also hear cars and people talking at all hours. Still a good place.

We were having a miserable week at overpriced, shabby big-name hotels in Katoomba and Meadlow bath, so we booked here at the last minute. What a lovely surprise. The gardens are beautiful, and the hotel is tucked behind Leura town. For the modest price, we were delighted with the room and the welcome. It would be five stars for me, except the room had quite a strong smell and was a little noisy during the day. We didn’t eat at the restaurant, so I can’t comment on the meals. I’d absolutely come back for a longer stay.

We stopped here for the night on our drive back to Melbourne from the Gold Coast, and I’m so glad we did. The staff were incredible, and dinner at the new Fairways restaurant was delicious. The wait staff were lovely too. Special thanks to Lilly. I’d definitely return.
