Frisco Hotel

We won’t be going back to the Frisci Hotel. My Japanese wife went inside to order drinks and get a lunch menu after we’d found a table outside. She said the barman didn’t acknowledge her while she waited. There was just one menu in a plastic stand, so she asked for a paper one and was told they didn’t have any. She brought the menu outside, then went back in to order. The barman told her, "I'm not serving you. You are rude". She replied, "you were rude to me", and he said, "Don't ever come back here again". My wife described him as in his late 30s, with a blond crew cut and homemade tattoos. We didn’t need to be told twice. The way she was treated was totally unacceptable, and I suspect the barman was racist.

We didn’t notice the time and stayed over our drinks, but the staff were lovely and never hurried us. The service was great, and there was a good variety of really good food. Views from the balcony were nice too. Would make a great local.

A lot of the old sailor art has gone, I guess that’s progress, but the place still has plenty going for it. It’s in a great spot on the waterfront, with rooftop seating, lots of seats inside and a full range of beers on tap. Food was well priced. The old sailor’s bar has become a new style bar, so take a chance and dine there.

The area could look a bit scary at night, but even walking through late, we were fine. I stayed at the hotel with my wife and really liked it: clean, functional, well located, and the staff were great. Zeb and Matt were especially good to us. I didn’t get to try the restaurant, but I’ll definitely come back to the hotel.
