Highfield Hotel

The staff were very friendly and even kept our bags after checkout. The room was bright and clean, the bathrooms were very clean too, and the mattresses were so comfortable. Good location and great value for money. I'd definitely come back.

For the price, it's a decent place, especially if you're travelling solo, and it's close to the station. I did find a few insects in my room. I know these things happen in Australia, and they came and sprayed; after that I had no more trouble. The bed and bathrooms stayed clean, the WiFi was good, and the staff were friendly.

The rooms are fine for the price, and the staff were genuinely nice and helpful. It's on a pleasant street with plenty of cafés and restaurants close by, and the city is an easy bus ride away. Thanks for the hospitality!

SCAMMERS. I usually don't leave reviews, but people should know what happened here. We'd booked a double room with an en-suite. When we arrived around 8am, we asked if we could leave our luggage while we waited for check-in. Instead, we were offered a room right away. The only stated difference was that it had a double bed with a single bunk above it, rather than just a double bed. We asked if anything else was different and were told no. We'd just flown in from London, were exhausted, and needed a shower, so we accepted. The room looked nothing like the one I'd seen on Wotif. It was small, faced a wall, and was ugly. The bathroom was tiny, with no hand soap or towel hooks. The sheets and pillowcases were barely acceptable. I've stayed in plenty of places, including backpacker hostels, and this was the worst I've seen. We were too tired to care much at first and figured we only needed the room for sleep. That was wrong. You could hear everyone around us all night, from loud voices and laughter to coughing and music, from 10pm until 6am. Every time someone walked past, the bed shifted a little and made a metallic noise. After checkout, I understood why the room hadn't looked like the photos. We'd been given room 5, which isn't advertised on Wotif at all. Of the 61 very polished photos, not one showed it. This is clearly false advertising, and we'll escalate the matter. There were bugs throughout the room, especially in the bathroom, including a nasty cockroach about 5cm long that I came across one night. That alone would have been enough for one star, but there was more. Despite calling itself a hotel, the property provided no service. Nobody ever came into our room, we weren't given more toilet paper or fresh towels, and we had to ask at reception, which was empty whenever we left or returned. When we asked for toilet paper, they gave us one roll. If bugs don't bother you, you don't mind having to ask for toilet paper and towels, you can sleep through anything, and you're happy to gamble on which room you'll get, this could be the place for you.
