The location was perfect for the opera house, the wharf, shops and places to eat, and we walked everywhere until rain sent us back from dinner. It's a clean, fantastic place with large rings and fine service. A couple of things to know, though: there are no elevators. I thought there was a busboy, but I wound up carrying our luggage up and down the stairs. The rings are very large, while the bathrooms are barely bigger than three pines on airplanes. Bad luck for us, the chef didn't show one day, so despite breakfast being included we had to go elsewhere and pay for it.

The Rocks setting is hard to beat. It's a charming spot, just a two-minute walk from the harbour between the Opera House and Harbour Bridge, and the hotel has a clean, cozy feel. You do pay for the location, but for the views and convenience it felt worthwhile. The rooms and bathrooms are quite old, though. Our safe didn't work and was never repaired, which made me think it may have been an ongoing issue nobody was addressing. The air conditioning was broken too, so the place could use some maintenance.

The Rocks is an ideal location, and the service was average, neither especially good nor bad. The room was the main reason for the poor rating. The carpet was quite dirty, the comforter looked very yellow between the sheets, and the air conditioner was covered in dust or mould and didn't blow cold air. The bathroom window was frosted only on its lower half, so nearby buildings could see in. The sink kept leaking whatever position the knob was in. I'd save money and pick somewhere with cleaner amenities, or pay a little more for a nicer place.

The location is fantastic for the sights and everything a tourist might need, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms are outdated, though. The bed was too small for two and super soft. We switched rooms because the old air conditioning buzzed, but in the next room it barely worked. The old plumbing made the toilets squeak, and construction started next to our room early in the morning. I wouldn't recommend it for light sleepers.

Breakfast was very good, and the location is convenient for Circular Quay and the George Street restaurants. But our basement room had no view, and it was very small for what we paid. The New Year's evening rate was NZ$2,500, and the other nights were $650 each. Even at that lower rate, the room's size and quality didn't justify the price. I can't recommend this hotel.
