Hotel Palisade

The bed was comfy and the food was really nice, but the rooms were just average and not really our thing. The man in the next room snored very loudly. If you're at the pub and just need a bed, this could suit you. The pictures look similar to the ones other people have posted.

This long-running pub still has rooms upstairs, and it's a clean, basic 2-star place in a great spot for Barangaroo, The Rocks and Circular Quay. There is a heater, but no air conditioning, which can be a real gamble in Sydney from December to March. Check-in happens at the bar. I couldn't find anyone there to help get the TV working or fix a light that wasn't working.

The location is great, but I felt awkward and unwelcome because some of the bar staff seemed full of their own importance and weren't welcoming at all. I'd have a drink downstairs, then find another rooftop bar where the staff show genuine care for their patrons.

We went in January for work Christmas drinks, since December was too busy. The set menu had modern Middle Eastern and North African flavours, and everything was delicious. Staff were friendly and attentive, and the view is one of the best in Sydney. I'd highly recommend it for a special evening out with visitors from overseas. The only drawback was that the wine list was a little pricey.
