The reception and dining and bar staff I dealt with were polite, efficient and helpful. There was one small problem: a staff member more or less barged into my room one morning to check the minibar. I raised it with reception at checkout, and they apologized, said they’d escalate it internally, and credited some food expenses on my bill. I stayed six nights in January 2026 in a King Bed Essential room at Kimpton Margot Sydney. The location is excellent, within a short walk of the George Street tram line, Town Hall and Gadigal train stations, and several bus stands. The 1930s building was originally the local water board headquarters and keeps its art deco style. The lobby, with pink granite columns and lots of seating, is spectacular. My basic room was spacious and beautifully presented, with blue and gold carpet, brass lamps and dark wood cabinetry. There was plenty of storage in the cupboards, shelves and drawers, and modern tech including electronically controlled lights and a Samsung tablet for hotel information, room service and contacting reception. My only room complaint was the handheld shower, which didn’t have the best water pressure.

The location was great, but housekeeping made an otherwise good holiday less enjoyable. The room was never made up, no matter what time we went out or returned. Once, the cleaner had left all her sprays in the room. Three times I had to track down a cleaner on the floor and beg them to do our room next. That was at 3pm, 4pm, 345pm and 230pm. On the fourth day I finally went to reception and got a lecture about how staff were doing their best. I’d been patient, but it’s not cheap, and I had to ask the rude desk person to remember who the customer was. Who tries to guilt a paying guest? Not happy. This wasn’t worthy of 2 stars. No more IHG for me.

We got a lovely surprise upgrade from an Essential Room to a Premier Essential Room. The room had Kimpton’s signature style and the charming Mr and Mrs Smith amenities. The decor throughout is stunning, with carefully put together spaces that feel both contemporary and warm. The rooftop pool has breathtaking Sydney views, and I enjoyed a late night visit to the yoga studio around midnight. I also liked Kimpton’s quirky touch of letting guests hire a plant, though it wasn’t available during our stay. The F&B Director was genuinely warm during aperitivo hour, and the whole team showed outstanding hospitality. There was an unpleasant smell from the pillows and then the sheets, but staff replaced everything immediately. The person helping us was apologetic and professional. My recent stay at Kimpton Margot Sydney was delightful, with a team that clearly cares about guests. There were a few small hiccups, but their quick response and sincere care made the stay enjoyable. Highly recommended if you’re after a characterful IHG property in Sydney.

We arrived early and our room wasn’t ready, but we had to change for a lunch booking and were short on time. Chelsea chased housekeeping and got us access early, then arranged a cab and called to let us know when it arrived. Her customer service was exceptional, and we were very grateful. The hotel has a grand feel, with elevators in the foyer before reception, so you don’t have to enter the main hotel area on your way to your room. Rooms are comfortable, a good standard and well appointed. It’s an IHG. hotel on Pitt Street near Bathurst Street, with a second exit onto Bathurst Street for walking to Town Hall Station or the light rail, both only a couple of minutes away. We hadn’t booked breakfast because it seemed pricey, and ended up wishing we’d stuck with that decision. It’s an unusual setup: coffee with a pastry or small fruit bowl, plus a main. No buffet or cereals, and it wasn’t for me. Next time I’ll look at other options. A nice city hotel with comfortable rooms, excellent service and a great location. Recommended.

The hotel is beautifully designed, the rooms are very nice, the location is pleasant and the staff are generally very friendly. Breakfast was the clear weak point. The à la carte food looked nice and tasted good, but the portions were so small that after each of the four mornings we left still hungry. For a hotel of this standard, the amount just isn’t enough. Morning service was slow, too. We often waited a long time for coffee and for service generally. Breakfast needs to be smooth and attentive. Better organization and more generous portions would bring it in line with the otherwise positive impression.
