Leura House

The blankets were warm and there was plenty of heating, but bring your own cutlery. The place has historical charm, though our room was dirty, with dust everywhere. There was pre-used soap in the shower with a pubic hair on it, and the room light kept flickering, which was nauseating.

Hidde was so friendly throughout our stay and gave us a lovely tour at the start. I was after somewhere with character, and old, quirky buildings with lots of history are exactly my thing. Leura House was a warm, laid-back place, and I'd happily stay again. We booked the cheapest room, with a queen bed, and it had more than enough space for me. There was no fridge in the room, but we could use the one in the kitchen off the common area, which was lovely. Our room only had heating, no aircon, though the building seemed to keep the temperature fairly neutral. And if you hear a blackish brown cat outside, feel free to give him cuddles. He's the friendliest cat I've ever come across.

There was visible mould in the room, which is a serious health concern. The property itself is unique and charming, but my stay at Leura House from 7-8 March was very disappointing, and the room should be taken out of service until it's properly cleaned and repaired. I'd asked for a quiet room in advance, yet mine was directly beside the driveway and two sets of stairs. Cars, guests and foot traffic were constantly noisy, and people walked right past the windows, leaving me with no privacy. I had to keep the curtains closed, and couldn't open the windows for fresh air because of the noise and activity. Resting or sleeping was impossible. Based on my experience, this room shouldn't be given to guests, especially anyone asking for a peaceful stay. It was a disappointing and uncomfortable experience.

The place feels rustic and quirky, with lots of atmosphere, but it also has modern conveniences and an authentic 1880s feel. Our daughter was delighted when a friendly cat hopped into our room from the verandah.
