After a long day, having a clean, quiet place to stay was a godsend. The air conditioning and quiet made it the best night’s sleep I’ve had in ages at North Rude Guest House. In the morning I spotted a lovely big park only a few minutes’ walk away, with paved paths through bushland, flowing creeks and ferns, several fields, and play areas for dogs and kids. There was even an outdoor exercise area with gym equipment. I’d say it’s a great place for either a short layover or a longer stay.

I stayed here in November 2025 on a business trip and found it pretty okay for a solo traveller. The room was spacious, clean and big enough for me. Inside the house is very well maintained, but the surrounding area isn’t. Better lighting at the entrance, a decent sign and daily cleaning would really lift this property.

The fire alarm went off during my stay, but there was nobody around to deal with it. Staff only came by the next day, knocking on the door to ask what had happened. Seems a bit late to act.

The shared kitchen and bathroom were both in great condition and very clean, and our room was spotless in every corner with no smells. The place felt cosy and quiet, which matters a lot to us, so we were very happy we chose North Ryde Guestbouse. Before we arrived, the owner sent a detailed message with clear directions, and getting into the room was super easy.

The clean beds were a relief, but the rest of the house was dirty and smelled damp and mouldy. It sits between two active construction sites, and wrapping paper covered the windows to block the view outside. The shower was poorly maintained, with old tiles painted over and now chipping. Its noise was so loud it rattled the whole house, so showering after 9pm was restricted. The exhaust fan had no cover either. Signs all around laid out strict rules: no common areas at night, call police in an emergency, a $70 fee to use the communal kitchen gas stove, and $300 if you lock your key in your room. It felt more like a house with rigid rules than a hotel, and there’s no real reception, just a sign on the front door saying “reception”. The price was cheap, but I expected a more honest description of the property. I’m not sure how it meets legal standards. People thinking of booking should know about these problems.
