Rest Easy Motel

The management were friendly and genuine, but they’ve got work to do to bring this motel back where it should be. It feels worn and patched together, with only basic amenities. For the price, it suits people with simple needs who just want somewhere to sleep and leave their things, a bit like a more private backpackers. The spot is quiet and peaceful despite being close to the highway.

The view to wake up to was spectacular, and the rooms were clean with new kitchen facilities. The owners are renovating, so the bathroom was still a bit old, though clean. The bed was comfortable. There weren’t any glasses or a water jug yet, and the bedside lamps weren’t great for reading.

The soft towels were nice, and the TV was OK. The oil heater worked, and there was a fridge and coffee in the room. Staff seemed friendly, though one person chatted on about the star rating and was way off, even if he was friendly. We didn’t stay for a meal. We paid $185 for a Saturday night, and it wasn’t worth three stars. The room was very dated and needs a major refresh, including fresh paint. The carpet was old and worn, with signs saying the floor was uneven. The bathroom was old too, and I wouldn’t have wanted to lie in the stained-looking bath, though that may just be its age. We were given a queen bed and a single with two old, mismatched covers, and just one single doona. The curtains were unevenly cut, and the mattress wasn’t comfortable. The shower had a plastic curtain.

Reception was super friendly and helpful. A few small things could’ve made the stay better: the pillows were too soft, there were too many dead bugs, and there was no plug for the bathtub. We weren’t allowed to have any alcohol on the premises, even if it was just packed away and we weren’t drinking it. The TV in the room was tiny, the smallest I’ve ever seen.
