Shilla Lodge

The location is great for trains, buses, food and shops, and the staff were nice and went out of their way to help. But after four days with no room service, I had to ask for fresh towels, toilet paper and tissues, and we had to empty the trash ourselves. I dropped something under the bed and was horrified by what I saw when I looked underneath. They should clean there too. Fine for a one or two night stay.

Strathfield was a nice place to spend an evening, with great food options. Shill Lodge was lovely too. The staff were very helpful and kept our bags for us until our evening flight. Our room and bathroom were tidy.

The location is good, and when I decided to leave, they were flexible and gave me a refund. The facilities are old, though. The air conditioning doesn’t work when more people are using it, and they got my reservation wrong for the room we’d agreed on. Staff seemed uninterested.

The rooms were a reasonable size and clean, and the two-person rates over Christmas were the cheapest I found. The facade is pretty unassuming, which might put you off. Drinks are shared, boarding-house style. The coffee powder had been left out too long and had gone hard in a lump.
