The Merchant Hotel

The newly renovated apartment had everything we needed, including a nice sitting room, a kitchen furnished with the necessary utensils, a refrigerator, stove, microwave and laundry. Having all that made the trip quite cheap. The subway is about a 7 minute walk from the hotel. I loved it and recommend it.

The staff were lovely and the price was excellent. Everything was clean and well laid out, with a spotless bathroom. My husband and I travel quite a bit for work, and I think this will be our usual place for jobs in Sydney. I really couldn't find anything negative to say about our stay.

I spent three months here because the hotel is well located near public transport, but the dirty room and the staff's misleading response really let me down. The room was stained and dusty. When I complained, they said all the rooms were like that, so I lowered my expectations. Then at checkout they charged me 420 AUD for deep cleaning, even after telling me the cleanliness was as good as it gets. I left feeling cheated and would tell anyone considering a long stay to think twice.

We know the area from usually staying near Summer Hill, and the location worked well for us, with public transport not too far away. We had a great room, roomy and comfortable, plus a washing machine and dryer, which came in handy for washing my husband's work clothes. We spoke with three different receptionists and they were all great. The beds were the best part: I usually wake up with a backache, but went three days without one, which was heaven. We were on Parramatta Rd, yet once the windows were shut it was silent. We're from the country and will definitely come back. Loved it!
