Josie at reception was respectful and very apologetic. She cleaned the toilet herself and offered us another room, though we declined. The bedding was clean apart from some dust, the bed was comfortable, and towels were supplied. The basin being in the bedroom didn’t bother me, and the room size was manageable. For a one-night stop to rest, The Jolly Knight Motel could work well. That said, it’s a three-star motel and the room was quite small. The toilet hadn’t been cleaned before we checked in, with splashes on the pan and rim. The side tables were dusty, and there were no shampoo or conditioner sachets. Cigarette smoke from the smoking receptacle just outside our room drifted inside. It was noisy from the Hume, the nearby military base, and some guests. The shopping centre was too far to walk to.

Vivian was a lovely, accommodating host. We stayed in the recently built tiny home section, which was very clean and private. The air conditioning was great, the wifi worked fine, and services were available when we asked.

They gave us a free room upgrade, and the room was clean and tidy. The staff understood we’d had a stressful holiday, showed real empathy, and were friendly and helpful throughout.

The room was tiny, though clean and nice smelling, and it was cheap enough. I stayed three nights and got woken around 7 each morning by banging, clanging, and scraping. I wish the cleaning lady had been more considerate. I probably wouldn’t come back. If I did, I’d insist on a room away from the store cupboard.
