I stayed for a couple of nights last week and had a pretty good experience, despite what some others have said. It’s an older-style hotel above a pub, probably built early last century, judging by the photos. My room had a bed, clean sheets, and a ceiling fan, which was really all I needed. The shared toilet, shower, and kitchen were adequate for hygiene and tidiness. I did spot a few cockroaches in the kitchen at night. Food attracts them, and the kitchen gets used by guests at different times throughout the day, so it might be hard to eliminate them completely, but the owner and staff could work on it. Check-in was smart and efficient: find the door, call the number, and they give you a code for the key case on the wall in front of you. Your room key is inside, then you’re on your way. I guess the savings from this setup are partly reflected in the rate. I’ll most definitely stay here again when I travel to Wootoomba.

DO NOT STAY HERE. The Sports Club next door was the only good thing. The entrance is down a dark, dirty, uneven walkway. Inside, it was old, dirty, dusty, and in need of a good clean, with stairs up to the rooms. Because of my mobility issues, I couldn’t manage that many stairs. A woman came down, though I’m not sure if she was the manager or owner, and agreed the stairs would be a problem. After I spoke with her and contacted booking.com, they replied that the met hotel would not honour my cancellation. As we were driving away, some guy from the same place was abusing us. Very disappointed.

We stayed here a while ago for one night because we were going to a friend’s wedding. For the price, it seemed decent enough until we got back at around 11pm. I went to the room to get our car keys, with our valuables and other things inside. I put the key in the door and had barely turned it a couple of millimetres when it snapped completely in half. We spent half an hour trying to call the number on the front door and reach our air BnB host, then got a spare key from a lock box. When my partner applied a little pressure to the door to get the broken piece out of the lock and use the spare, it popped right open. Inside, we found the latch bolted to the wall was loose. Anyone could have pushed the door hard enough to open it at any time without a key, while all our valuables were in there that night during the wedding.

It was fine for somewhere to shower and sleep. The room was clean, with fresh linen and a towel, and the other room I saw looked much the same. The bathrooms are old and probably only cleaned every 24 hours, but the water was hot and everything worked. I didn't see any cockroaches, though I imagine they’re around in rural QLD. I've stayed in worse places in Sydney for twice the price. At $74 a night for hostel-style accommodation in an old hotel, my expectations felt about right. For $50, I’d have given it five stars. The photos were taken as I left in the morning.

The rooms were clean, which can be hard to find even in pricey hotels. The place has loads of character too, and the staff were so friendly 🥰 Loved staying here and will definitely come back!
