Toukley Motel

The room was spotless, and I had no issues during my stay. The man who checked me in was friendly, and even though there were people in rooms on both sides, I couldn’t hear them at all. I’d book again, and with some small renovations I think the place could be even better. The bed was comfortable, and the kitchenette had what you’d expect, with plenty of cutlery, bowls and plates. I couldn’t find any milk for coffee, not even a little one, which was odd. The window air conditioner was loud but worked very well. I don’t mind the noise, though anyone needing a very quiet room might want to skip it. For the price, it’s a great place. A few things could use attention, like the stained, peeling paint inside and the bathroom fan. There’s no window in the bathroom, and the fan barely works.

The hostess was friendly and accommodating, and the shower was good. The rooms are a little older, but cosy. The air conditioning worked a treat, the smart TV was great, and there was a new microwave and a good-sized fridge. Free cereal breakfast and a good location were nice extras.

I paid for two nights, but packed up at 9:30 and drove four hours home without even making it through the first night. The room smelled of sewage and stale urine. The chairs and carpet were stained, the fridge was rusty, and the air conditioner’s cooling coils were packed with dust, which seemed like a health hazard. At 9pm a group started using the BBQ area near other guests, and we could hear them. It seemed to be open around the clock. I was also uncomfortable about the people staying there, including Centrelink residents. The manager was rude and didn’t know how to speak to people. If you’re after somewhere cheap and nasty, you won’t be disappointed. I learned my lesson about run-down, cheap motels.

I spent eight nights here and loved the relaxed atmosphere. It’s clean and in a great spot, close to amenities and the beach, just across the road from Beachcomber. Teresa was amazing, lovely and curious. Cute cat too. 10/10, would recommend.
