Clarion Hotel Townsville

The hotel is close to everything in the area, and the staff were exceptionally helpful and nice. They even kindly let visitors use their laundry machines, which was a great perk. I'd stay there again.

I was there just for quick overnight stays on two occasions, arriving late and leaving early. Someone was always at the desk until 23:00 and back again from 06:00. The rooms are clean and modern, though street-facing rooms can be noisy. Secure underground parking overnight is available at no charge.

Not happy at all. Expedia's listing was false: no bath, restaurant, bar, room service, coffee machine or robes. I checked in at 10pm after a long flight and nobody mentioned that the hotel had no amenities. When I called reception about the advertised bath, I was told no rooms have one. I asked about room service and when the cafe opened for breakfast, and found out the hotel had been sold and no longer offered either. Seriously, $249 for a bed. Not happy, Jan! I've had better value in Melbourne and Sydney at much fancier hotels. I called Expedia, and they contacted The Clarion. The offer was a voucher for a local cafe if I rebooked. Like I'm going to spend my money there again. False advertising is still illegal. Don't stay here if you want amenities, they have none.

The one good thing was Scott, who ran around tirelessly to help us. 10/10 for him. Reception noted all my complaints and said the manager would call, but I haven't heard a word. I'll never stay here again. I was very disappointed with the upgraded room I had to pay for when I asked to add an extra night. The lighting was dim, the curtains were awful and had broken clips, and there was no kettle, hair-dryer, dish liquid or teatowel. The bathroom basin was tiny and the pillows were shocking. This shouldn't happen in an upgraded room.
