We never stayed at the hotel, but we did try the restaurant. It’s in a great spot, though the prices are way too high for what you get, including $8 for a FANTA. They’d run out of nuggets for the kids, so we ordered a schnitzel instead. My son spilled his drink, and I cleaned it up, but they didn’t offer a refill. The kids’ meals took 30 minutes, which was fine, but after an hour the adult food still hadn’t arrived. When we asked, they said it was next. Ten minutes later they told us one pizza had been made wrong and asked if we wanted it anyway. We wanted the pizza we ordered. By then the kids had finished their mains and dessert, and the adults’ meals had finally come out, except for mine, which they’d messed up. Everyone else finished and my meal still hadn’t arrived, with no one saying anything. Complaining got us nowhere, so we left. Our group of six spent over $200 and expected better. I wouldn’t recommend it for families, big groups, or anyone with less than three hours for lunch.

It’s a clean, comfortable hotel with lovely old-fashioned charm, and the price feels right. The building could use some work, but given its age that’s no surprise, and they’ve been upfront about a significant renovation getting started. Jen gave us a warm welcome, and we’d certainly return. Claims by one reviewer about bed bugs are vicious and utterly preposterous. The business is run by people who deserve to be treated honestly and with respect. Thank you, Jen. Margi and company.

After finishing a five-day hike, I walked in completely exhausted and just wanted a hot shower and cosy bed. The room was nice, though the hot water took ages to come through. I was happy to wait. The woman managing the restaurant was so friendly and made my afternoon much better. The cafe staff were welcoming too. I felt a bit unsure about the woman who helped me with my room. I don’t know why some people in this line of work don’t smile or welcome you, though maybe she was having a bad day. Thanks to the lovely restaurant manager, whose name I wish I could remember.

I was driving up for work and found a great place to get a meal and a beer. It’s opposite the ocean, with plenty of parking. The steak was honestly as good as the best city steak restaurants, and the prawns were excellent. I don’t usually leave Google reviews, but this one deserved it. I strongly recommend the place, and I’ll bring my missus up in a few weeks and head straight back.

We spent a night in the family room at The Anchorage Hotel on 29/11/2025. The location was great, right by the beach and near Granited Island and Cockle Train station. Walking around the area was refreshing. The staff were helpful and informative, and the bed was comfortable enough for a good rest, though I had a cough and wondered if it was from the carpeted room.
