Walpole Rest Point Tourist Park

It’s a beautiful spot and the staff are lovely, but the facilities felt very dated and not well maintained. We camped on a site with hardly any shade or grass. Our friends took a cabin, which had no outdoor area and didn’t seem like good value to us. The linen looked poorly washed, and the pillows were terrible. The ablutions were very old and clearly difficult to keep clean.

Seeing kangaroos right outside our camper at night was unreal. I’m not Australian, so that was a real novelty. We stopped here for one night on the way between Denmark and Margaret River. The showers were hot, though they could use a proper scrub to be cleaner.

There’s a big hall with a ping-pong table for recreation, and the camp kitchen has cooking facilities and a fridge/freezer for food. You can also get fresh bread and coffee in the morning. The showers were very hot and available whenever I needed them. The place itself is gorgeous, and the staff were friendly and accommodating. I booked through HipCamp and thought the rate was good. I didn’t manage to get a photo of the lovely river. If you’re putting up a tent, the ground is very hard to get pegs into. It’s an open area with little shelter from the wind, and it can get very windy. The road into the campground is narrow in places, with lots of wallabies around dawn and dusk, so take care.

The friendly kangaroos and pelicans wandering freely were a big hit with my students. I brought a group to stay here before an Outward Bound Expedition, and the accommodation suited our needs perfectly, with a magnificent waterfront view. After the expedition, Walpoint Rest Point let us come back to shower. They were extremely friendly, provided towels and gave us soap. I highly recommend staying here, whether you’re camping or in one of the chalets. You’ll definitely enjoy your stay.
