Walking down the hill into Hobart is easy, but getting back up is another matter. An Uber is pretty much essential, since local buses don’t seem to come through this area. The motel sits high above the city. It’s a clean, basic place, but very dated. That old VCR player says a lot. With new owners, maybe a refurbishment is coming. The rates are reasonable, though not quite budget.

Parking was a nightmare, with too few spaces for the number of rooms. The kitchen was basically a sink and a microwave on the counter, and the fridge wasn’t even a standard bar fridge size. We had to lay all our bottles down because they wouldn’t fit standing up. We spent the last three days of our holiday here and were really disappointed by the room. It was large and had a separate, large bathroom, but the musty smell hit us as soon as we came in. Everything felt old and outdated. The sheets had holes, the shower screen had two big cracks, one vanity light was broken, and the shower recess needed a proper clean. Do yourself a favour and give this place a miss. It was the worst place I’ve stayed, and I definitely won’t be back.

During heavy rain, the roof in our room leaked. We asked to move, but the hotel said it was fully booked. Then the owner refused our request for a refund for the night with the leak. Unbelievable. The place is poorly maintained, and the owner showed no sense of customer service. We run a travel company and often book accommodation for guests. After this, we won’t recommend this hotel to anyone. Stay away if you value comfort and professionalism.

The spa bath and spa shower were wonderful at the end of the day. Our accommodation was huge and roomy, and once inside it was very quiet.

We’ve stayed in much better places for less, and I’d never recommend this one. The first room was dirty, with dust on everything, soap drips around the tub, something spilled inside the fridge, dead flies on the windowsills between the panes, and a pair of underwear under the desk. When we asked for a refund, we got the runaround. The receptionist called the manager and spoke in Chinese, which felt rude because we couldn’t understand them. We were told there might be a refund the next day when the manager was in, but nobody would give a straight answer. They seemed to be trying to offer only a partial refund. We asked to speak to the manager and were fobbed off in Chinese, even though she spoke English. We weren’t willing to lose our money because we needed $$$ for more accommodation, so they showed us another room. It was cleaner, but still not worth the price. There was no fire extinguisher, and the heater worked well but sat under long curtains, which seemed like a fire risk. The wallpaper was stapled to the wall where it was peeling. There was mouse poo on the blankets in the cupboard and black mould in the bathroom. The receptionist said she’d checked that room that morning. When we showed her how gross it was, she looked surprised and even said it was like her grandma’s house.
