Royal Hotel West Wyalong

The Parma and nachos were good, but the eye fillet steaks were glued-together meat, not eye fillet. I’ve included photos. Serving glued steak is ridiculous. The wait was 57 minutes, and nobody warned us when we ordered. When I asked about it, staff said, “It is what it is.” I had to ask him to get an ETA from the chef. Go to the Tatts hotel instead, they do a good feed there! 💫

Pedro, if I’ve got his name right, was great and offered a refund straight away. The lovely Argentinean lady behind the bar was kind too. The other guy behind the bar rolled his eyes when I gave feedback, which wasn’t professional. We’d come to the royal for a nice steak after nearly an eight-hour drive, based on the reviews. We ordered first and sat at the bar from 4pm, but after an hour and seeing other people get their meals, I had to ask where ours were. We’d ordered a scotch and an eye fillet, both medium rare, one with mash and greens and the other with chips and greens. When the food finally came, both steaks were cold and well done, the sauces were cold, and the vegetables weren’t what we’d ordered. It felt like the meat might have been cooked ahead and microwaved, with the sauces left in a cold bain marie. We were starving, so we ate half. I don’t usually complain, but this was beyond a joke and we won’t be back.

Dinner by the fireplace would be lovely, and the decor is nice. My lamb chops were delicious, though the crumb was a bit overcooked and nearly burned. Everyone else’s meals were fantastic.

We got in late after a long drive and they reopened the kitchen for us. The kids were ravenous, so they gave us extra chips. Great pub, delicious food. Highly recommend.
