Wingham Motel

The rooms were very clean and well presented for an overnight stay, and I couldn’t have asked for much more. It started with the first phone call: the lady was absolutely lovely and very accommodating, and got me booked in straight away. Great service and clean rooms.

We were arriving late with an 18-month-old and had been told the key would be in the door. When we opened it, the room hadn’t been prepared at all. Two beds had clearly been slept in, towels were dirty on the floor, coffee cups were left out, and the benches and floor were dirty. It plainly hadn’t been cleaned after the last guest. The office was closed, so we called and were told someone could come clean it if we gave them an hour and a half. It was 9:30 pm. We couldn’t do that and asked for our money back. There was no parking near the room either, and we didn’t feel safe.

The room was open when we arrived, perhaps to air out the cigarette smell. There was a cockroach on the bench and a mound in the shower or bathroom. It didn’t look like the photos, so I can only guess the better rooms are kept for booking.com guests. Another guest told us, “It’s not great here.” We had a child with us, no parking space near our room, and didn’t feel safe, so we walked straight out to reception. The manager then argued about returning our money, even though the owner had authorised it, and tried to hold back $100. We’re beyond disappointed. We’d been looking forward to what we thought was a lovely place. Please read reviews carefully, sadly we didn’t.

A friendly, clean and comfortable place to stay for the night, with a wonderful shower. Lynn, who I assume is the owner, was very helpful with various topics. There’s a great pizza place across the road that does all sorts of food and delivers to your room.
