The resort is close to everything, and the shuttle stops right outside reception. Our room, 222, was cool and comfortable with great air conditioning, and I appreciated the early check-in. The apartment had what we needed, though the toaster in room 222 needs replacing. The bathroom products were nice, there were plenty of towels, water pressure was good, and the flexible shower head was a bonus. But the apartment wasn’t like the ones shown on the website, and the lounge, curtains, and carpet need a deep clean because of marks and stains. I was a little concerned that there were no flyscreens or security screens on any windows or doors, especially since our room backed onto an empty block. We had a small furry visitor, which staff dealt with quickly. Arron was lovely, but needed more support or training before being left to run the front of house. We weren’t told about the onsite restaurants or pool, how to check out when reception was closed, or the correct tour information. The gardens and overall resort look old, messy, and dirty, with leaves, rubbish, and dead or dying plants. I know it’s the desert, but it looks like no effort goes into Emu Apartments. Other resorts have plants and ponds. I don’t think I’d stay at Emu walk again: Desert Gardens was very similarly priced and seemed better appointed and maintained.

The Ayers Rock Resort had a holiday-commune feel in a good way, with a really eclectic mix of people from all over the world. Staff were excellent, and the one IGA supermarket wasn’t as expensive as we’d expected for somewhere so remote. The rooms were very nice, with fabulous decor, though the bathroom felt due for an upgrade and didn’t quite match the rest of the apartment. I’d recommend hiring a car for 2-3 days. It lets you get away from the highly priced experiences and make your own way to the amazingly unique, otherworldly star of the show, Uluru itself.

The food was delicious and good value for Uluru, and we had a comfortable stay. Ayers Rock offers room guests great free activities, led by guides who were professional and friendly. My only small concern was the hotel reception: both staff members seemed inexperienced and weren’t familiar with the resort facilities.

The apartment was spacious, self-contained, very new, and clean, with a modern design. It was quiet and close to the town square, IGA, and cafe, with the pickup point just 190 metres away. Everyone at Ayers Rock resort was friendly and helpful. I didn’t realize I’d left my iPhone charger in the bedroom, but staff contacted me straightaway.

I was very disappointed. I booked an apartment because of dietary requirements and needing to cook for myself, but the “kitchen” has no oven. I also found a cockroach in there, which didn’t make me want to cook. And in response to the suggestion that there was an oven in the room, really? Do you think we’re stupid? I checked with the front desk, and they confirmed that neither my room nor any other room had an oven option.
