Sails In The Desert

We had a great four-night stay. Everyone was friendly, the property was excellent, and things seemed well thought out. It felt more like a four-star resort than a five-star one. The main letdown was room service, where the food was not good at all. Activities can also be quite expensive since everything is owned by the same company. Apart from that, it was an amazing experience.

The room was a decent size, clean, quiet, and had a renovated bathroom. The lobby is monumental, and the front desk staff were amicable and helpful. The location is good, about 15 miles from Ulara/Ayers Rock park. Parking could be tight when lots of guests have cars.

The location of Sails in the Desert is unbeatable, right in the middle of everything and a perfect base for exploring Uluṟu. The food was genuinely great, and the food and beverage staff were friendly and welcoming. But several serious problems overshadowed those good parts. We paid our whole bill the night before checkout, then found another $300 charged after we’d left. When we returned to sort it out, the supervisor was rude and condescending. A simple apology and refund shouldn’t be so hard. We were also charged for extra wine we hadn’t had. We caught that one while still onsite, but I’d keep a close eye on your bank statements here. The rooms need a serious update too: they’re dated and worn, and both beds in ours had stains. For what it costs, the property isn’t meeting the standard it should. Great location and a lovely restaurant team, but the overall stay needs work.

The gardens around the resort were stunning and exceptionally well cared for, and every group of staff we encountered impressed us, from reception and housekeeping to the restaurant, gift shop, porters, and gardeners. Everyone was friendly, helpful, and attentive to detail. We also enjoyed the free cultural activities and the paid ones. Will, who drove us to the Field of Lights Experience, was brilliant, and it was lovely to meet Fariq the General Manager, who was very friendly and accommodating.
