Amber Hotel

Cigarette smoke was everywhere, including inside the room, and the linens were dirty. We checked in at 3pm even though check-in was at 2pm, but the room still wasn't ready and we waited 45 minutes. During our five days there, we had to call reception for every little thing, from water and soap to towels and an empty glass. There wasn't any liquid hand soap in the bathroom. I filmed it, but couldn't upload the video with the review. The mattress had cigarette burns, and despite asking more than once, it wasn't replaced during our stay. I uploaded a photo.

The breakfast was good, but I wouldn't stay here again. There are lots of other Baku hotels in the same price range that would be a better experience. It's about a 10-minute drive from the Old Town. Our room was a decent size, but the double bed was two twin beds pushed together, with mattresses at different heights, so it didn't really work as a double. Several things were poorly maintained: one curtain was coming loose, the shower head didn't work, and a pipe by the toilet was leaking. We got in around 10pm, too late to look for another hotel. At check-in there was just one staff member, and he seemed able to help only with checking us in. The morning staff were more helpful, but we were already checking out. After a walk the next morning, we came back to find the door open and two men inside. They said they were checking the rooms on the floor. It was strange that the hotel hadn't told us and had let non-housekeeping staff into the room.

The location made sightseeing easy, and I liked the cleanliness, friendly manner and good service. The downside was breakfast. During my seven-day stay, its quality wasn't acceptable.

My wife and I weren't welcomed when we arrived at ember hotel. They looked at us so badly, and I could see they didn't like my wife because she is a black woman. Only two people were nice: the man who took our bag to the room and another staff member who worked overnight. The food wasn't good either. I ate there, got sick, and spent the whole week in the hospital. If you want a good vacation, please don't go to Amber.
