The location may look fine in the online photos, but the stay was cold and unpleasant. It was late September and our room felt like a fridge. Reception told me three times that cold Baku nights were normal, while the heating either didn't work or wasn't being turned on. I slept in a jacket and hat under every blanket. The bathroom floor was freezing too, so even taking a shower was miserable. If you feel the cold, I'd avoid it from October through April. Cleanliness was poor as well. There was dust on the TV, hair in the shower drain, stains on the sheets, and limescale and odd residue inside the kettle. Housekeeping changed the sheets after I pointed this out but didn't clean the mattress. The hallway carpet smelled musty and looked like it hadn't had a deep clean in years. The WiFi kept cutting out, and there was no soundproofing. I heard conversations and doors slamming in the hallway. Breakfast was a very cheap buffet, with stale bread, watery tea, and hardly anything hot. For what they charge, I'd expect basic hygiene. It felt neglected, and there are better places in Baku for the same price. I won't return or recommend it to anyone who wants warmth and cleanliness.

This was the most ridiculous hotel I've stayed in. The rooms were filthy, the food was cheap and I couldn't tell if it was safe, and the service was awful. Most of the staff didn't speak English fluently. The whole experience was just bad.

The rooms were spacious and clean, and the hotel staff were very friendly. We had the best breakfast of all our travels across AZN. The restaurant was so-so, and the pool was a little shallow, though still nice for relaxing and swimming a few laps.

Astoria hotel is about a 20-minute drive from the city center. The rooms are cleaned very well, and the food is good. It also has useful facilities, including a health club and halls for meetings and wedding celebrations.
