Sherlock Holmes Hostel Baku

This was the worst “hostel” I’ve stayed in. Avoid it. The place smells, looks like it’s falling apart, and there’s trash by the entrance. Sockets didn’t work, the sheets weren’t clean when we arrived, only one shower worked, and the toilet area was disgusting and stank because of a water leak. The online photos give the wrong impression. The atmosphere was strange, and it was incredibly loud after 1am, so sleeping was impossible. Many guests seemed to stay for one or two months, supposedly studying at the local university, though I doubt that after overhearing some people, mainly Indians and Nigerians, talking about visa problems. I’m certain those guests are the ones giving it five stars. The owner didn’t speak a word of English or Russian when we arrived. They did give us a towel, and none of our stuff was stolen while we were there, which was a surprise in those conditions. I only took one photo when checking out at 1am, but even that shows how different it looks from the pictures online.
