The owner really made us feel welcome: he showed us around the old town, talked about its architecture, history, and traditions, and took us to dinner. He didn’t expect payment for the tour, even covered our bottle of wine, and we split the dinner bill together. He’s a warm person, and perhaps he was especially attentive because we were two women traveling without male company. Still, we wanted to explore on our own, at our own pace. He questioned our choices about how we spent our time, was often at the entrance, and even came to check on us in our room one afternoon to ask whether we were still sleeping and suggest we go enjoy the weather. It felt over-monitored. We didn’t ask for that kind of care, though others may feel differently. This isn’t a security concern, just something female guests traveling without men might want to know. The guesthouse itself is comfortable, cozy, clean, and very well located, with all the facilities available. The kitchen and bathroom are shared, but both were clean and there was always hot water.
