The rooms were clean, but there was no soap or shampoo in the bathroom, and guests had to ask reception to open the doors because the rooms didn't have their own key cards. The service and breakfast didn't meet our expectations, so three stars feels about right.

We had a great meal nearby: Chinar is only about a 3 minute drive away, and its "nakha" fish kabob is supposed to be the best in the world. For crawfish, try Qartal, but order 2 hours ahead and come back later to eat. The route goes through an old village that smells of cow dung, so don't let that put you off. The river fish, especially shamayka, was the best I've had in a while, and there are lovely restaurants across the river on the opposite bank. The hotel itself has excellent service and sits in a great spot next to the Kur river.

Watching the Olympic rowers train on the Kura River below our windows was something special. This place is a real gem, with great food and service in a wonderful location. A world class destination.
