Motel Moskva

The room had several big cockroaches. I managed to catch one in the bathroom at 2 a.m., and there were at least two more. They’re really fast. I don’t know how I managed to sleep there. I’ve seen the photo from that night, so yes, I know where I was. I hope the hotel really did clean and disinfect the place for a week after this. In Switzerland, hotels like this would be closed for a few weeks. My check-in took 45 minutes. They first said the hotel was full and an employee had made a mistake, but since I’d booked the second-highest room class, they eventually found something. I got no welcome, poor service, and not a single smile. Nobody seemed to understand English when I complained at checkout, or they were pretending not to, knowing the place was infested. I got no reply to my emails, and there was no apology even after two weeks. I also never got any information or bill from the travel agency about cleaning or a fee for some days. The employees were disrespectful when they didn’t understand English and noticed you weren’t local. The only exception was the woman working at night, who spoke English fluently and gave the kind of service a four-star hotel should. I felt something like racism for the first time as a Swiss man traveling. Maybe they treated me that way because my first name is Milan, which is common in Bosnia, and I didn’t understand their language. I’ve worked at a four-star Grande Hôtel in Switzerland, so I know it’s not comparable. We have much better one-star hotels and even hostels that provide basic service and don’t treat you like an enemy. The wake-up call was forgotten, and I woke up just an hour before my flight. I’d booked my last night in BankaLuka for the spa and wake-up call. The place shouldn’t be called a spa, and the wake-up call didn’t work. It takes 30 minutes to get to the airport by taxi, so I could only hope the larger bag I didn’t need to check in would be enough. I was rushing so badly that I put old clothes and a jacket in a plastic bag and left it in the room. I’m sorry I didn’t have time to ask where the trash went, and that it took you days to move a bag from the room to the trash. I’m also sorry I left more than half a bottle of a Swiss specialty in the fridge after a week. I left the room cleaner than it was. What would you have done with maybe 60 minutes before your flight? I could’ve drunk it on the way to the airport while shouting at the taxi driver to hurry, especially after such a bad experience. So yes, I was that drunk all the time... I spent a week in Bosnia because the mother of a close friend was dying. We had a sip the first evening, and after that I didn’t even have a beer, let alone Rakia. Maybe the owners had too much of it. Thanks for the nice reply here, and for lying about customers. This is what international travelers can expect at your hotel. But you couldn’t reply to the friendly emails I wrote twice. I can only recommend booking an apartment for a quarter of the price and twice the comfort.

The room was nice and clean, with air conditioning, and breakfast was good. It’s very well located near the city centre. The receptionists didn’t speak English. I couldn’t tell if they didn’t understand or just didn’t want to speak it, so communicating was a bit of a problem.

The breakfast was a lovely extra, and the staff were helpful and very professional. The hotel surpassed what I expected; I’ve stayed in plenty of five-star places that weren’t as good.

The food was great, and the rooftop cafe is a lovely spot. In summer 2022 there wasn’t a pergola, but one has been installed since. Take the elevator by reception to get up there.
