Motel Kolo

We came across this lovely spot by chance. Such a beautiful place to relax, with a marvelous view and a soothing river.

Dinner was a highlight, especially the eel brudet, and the fig dessert was great too. The room was large and very clean, and the location right on the Buna River is excellent. Thank you!

We arrived at our reservation at "Kolo" around 1am after a long day of travel, only to find the room infested with ants and cockroaches. We complained at reception, but they said they were fully booked and had nowhere else for us. At first, they expected us to accept that it was “just nature.” We pushed them to do something, and they sprayed the room with poison, then expected us to sleep there. Because of the obvious health risk, we didn’t use that room at all. We had booked three rooms but could only use two. One friend became sick and vomited during the night, most likely from breathing in the fumes. Some of us had to pack up and pay in full for another hotel just to get some much-needed sleep. I slept with my parents in their two-bed room, leaving the infested room empty. The staff refused any kind of refund when we complained. After I left a review through Booking, the motel manager contacted us and refused to refund us because he was upset about the review. He also threatened us. When we brought up the police and inspection services, he became more agitated and made more malicious threats, referring to the ethnic cleansing during the Yugoslav war and implying he would exterminate us if he could.

We had an early dinner outside, even though it was over 40 degrees. The trees and cool breeze from the river made it pleasantly comfortable. The fish platter for two came with grilled trout, calamari, pieces of eel and crab on sticks, with Swiss chard and potatoes. It was tasty, and we chose our own seasonal salad. There was also a good selection of drinks, and the service was good. The restaurant sits in the National Park at the Buna and Bunica river delta, a favourite swimming spot for locals and people from Mostar, who have been coming here for ages. It’s only a 10-minute drive from Mostar, and you can sit inside or out. We’ll come back to Restaurant Kolo.
