Medjugorje Hotel & Spa

I’ve been visiting Medjugorje for three years and have always found people and hotel staff here kind and welcoming. That’s why it’s so upsetting to describe how disrespectful, aggressive, and intimidating my recent stay at this hotel felt as a woman travelling alone. When I arrived, two staff members told me to park directly outside the entrance. I questioned the spot because a sign seemed to indicate it wasn’t designated parking, but they reassured me several times that it was fine. I trusted them and left my car there overnight without any problem. After returning from 7pm Mass the next evening, I used the same spot, thinking the previous day’s instructions still applied. Within moments, another man working at the hotel approached and aggressively told me to move. I hadn’t even got out of the car. I immediately reversed out and was willing to park somewhere else. What upset me was how hostile and rude he was. Even after I’d moved without arguing, he kept berating me loudly and in an intimidating tone. I asked his name, and he refused to give it until I’d asked four times. That’s unacceptable from hotel staff. I parked elsewhere and tried to return to my room. He went outside with a colleague to point out the no-parking sign, even though I’d already moved and the matter was resolved. I wanted no more interaction and headed for the elevator, but both men followed me inside and kept speaking to me in a derogatory way, repeating the same point after I’d complied. I felt completely intimidated and threatened. I stopped the elevator doors from closing and asked him to stop speaking to me like that. His conduct was far beyond professional or respectful. There were plenty of empty spaces at the hotel, which may be why his colleagues had sent me to that spot in the first place. If someone had politely asked me to move, I’d have done it without hesitation, and I did. The problem wasn’t the parking. It was the aggressive, degrading, inappropriate way a staff member treated me, which reflected poorly on the hotel’s hospitality. I can’t recommend staying here if this is how solo female guests are treated, with raised voices, intimidation, and a refusal to give a name when asked. I’ve never encountered behaviour like this in any hotel I’ve stayed in Medjugorje, or in any hotel anywhere. I hope management takes this as a wake-up call. This behaviour is unacceptable and needs to be addressed.

The reception staff were all nice and patient, and did their job perfectly. At this hotel they have more things to explain than at a regular hotel, and they took the time to do that. I also left my clothes to be cleaned at 8am; by 12h30 they were back on my bed, clean and folded, at an affordable price. Where else do you get that kind of service? I was happy to find the big room and secure parking for my motorbike that I’d wanted when I booked. The hotel is pretty new, and both the room and bathroom were spacious, clean, and well maintained. The thick towels were especially nice, and the shower hoses were all working. There’s one star missing because the restaurant only serves groups. They wouldn’t serve an individual like me, so I had to eat at a regular restaurant outside the hotel, even though I would have preferred to dine in at least one evening. Still, it was a very good experience.

Ivan Vasilj made our visit special. The hotel recommended him for transportation, and he was kind, communicative, punctual, and incredibly helpful. He drove us around Medjugorje and to and from Croatia, including Dubrovnik. I was travelling with my mother and felt completely at ease with him. His local knowledge and thoughtful suggestions added a lot to the trip. We also had a lovely stay at the hotel. The rooms were comfortable, the atmosphere peaceful, and the breakfast fresh and satisfying each morning. I’m grateful they connected us with Ivan, and I’d highly recommend his service to anyone visiting Medjugorje, whether they stay at this hotel or elsewhere.

We haven’t started our pilgrimage in Medjugorje yet, and plan to go to Dubrovnic afterward. I messaged the hotel ahead of time to ask for advice, and they replied straight away.
