The common space, including reception, kitchen, and extra bathrooms, closed every evening after a certain hour, which I really didn't like. Laundry cost extra, and everything was cash only. Compared with other hostels I stayed at in Bosnia, those restrictions left me with a bad feeling. The place is small and about 10-15 minutes from the old town. Rooms were standard, the air-conditioning was strong, and there were several bathrooms with warm water.
Free homemade iced tea and a funny, memorable tour of local spots, including beautiful waterfalls you can swim in, were highlights. The owner ran it and made spending the day with him great. At the hostel, the mood is relaxed and social, the rooms are roomy and air-conditioned, and the huge lockers and luggage storage are free. Everyone on staff was friendly and ready with help or recommendations. Hostel Balkaneros was a great experience!!
I only spent one night here after a bad stay at another hostel, and I really wish I’d booked my whole trip here. My room was comfortable, with AC, bed curtains, and a towel, and everything was very clean. Fedja made us feel welcome, hung out with my travel group, and gave us ideas for the day. Even though my friends weren’t staying there, he let them leave their bags for the day. My bus left before breakfast, so he kindly called a taxi and sent me off with breakfast from the bakery. Such good value at 10€ a night. I’ll come back!
The owner went out of his way to help us sort out a parking ticket we got in Mostar, so he was a seriously useful person to know. He’s relaxed, easy to talk to, really knowledgeable, and very helpful. The hostel is well set up, and it was quiet when we visited, though I could see it having a great atmosphere. There’s also a yummy bakery just down the street, and the location is great. I’d happily stay again next time I’m in Mostar. 10/10 recommend :)
Fedja and the people here were incredible, and I’m really grateful I got to meet them. The place feels cozy and well intentioned. I’d especially recommend their almost daily tour around Mostar. Fedja drives a small group himself, shares personal stories openly and with humor, and knows how to get around the queues other people face. Just amazing. Thank you, Fedja!
