Orka Hotel Neum

The bathroom was clean, but the coffee wasn't tasty at all, it was bitter. At the hotel's coffee bar I asked how much a Coffee Latte cost, and the guy said "four", so I agreed. After he made it, he asked me for 4 EUROS instead of 4 Bosnian MARKS, which is double. The official currency here is Marks. That felt like a scam, so I can only give two stars.

Dinner was unexpectedly good, the restaurant view was lovely, and the staff were attentive and kind. But it came at a ridiculous price. The rest of the stay was rough: the place is isolated, and reaching the bit of coast that passes for a beach means walking down the road for quite a while. Our room was dirty, most of the outlets didn't work, including the one for the mini-fridge, and the bathroom smelled unbelievably bad from poor ventilation and an inadequate sewer system. Breakfast was a sad spread of the cheapest food. €70 for one night is simply too much for this place.

The store had good prices, but that was about the only bright spot. I paid too much for a hotel in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by roads, and the stay was miserable. The shower doors were broken, things were missing from the room, including the fire alarm, and the Wi-Fi was terrible. The water that was meant to be warm came out cold, and by morning there was barely any running water. The AC didn't work properly, so the nights were like hell. The food was very cheap, and after my first meal I started vomiting about three hours later. Many people from my trip got sick too, with vomiting and diarrhea, and I'd read reviews describing the same thing. Such a waste of money.

The receptionist was the one bright spot. She tried to handle all our requests, lent us an extra phone charger when we'd forgotten ours, and even helped out in the restaurant. The restaurant itself was a mess that same night: with only five tables and two waiters, they still got our order wrong repeatedly. Cutlery and wine glasses were missing, the two meals were mistakenly put on one plate without us realizing, and then we were charged double for both. They also brought the wrong bill to the wrong table. The room would have been okay if its AC had worked, especially during a major heat wave. This hotel has potential, but it needs a lot of work. Without the receptionist, I think the whole place would have been a complete disaster.
