Guest House Hendek

The apartment worked well for our family of two adults and two children. It was small but cosy, the sofa bed suited the kids, and the air conditioning was a welcome extra in the heat. We had a garage, laundry facilities, and a free gym that my husband and children used. Towels were changed daily, and supplies like toilet paper, an iron, and spare kettles were easy to find by the entrance. There was even a vacuum in the hallway that came in handy. The hosts were welcoming, especially Maya and Azra, and easy to reach on WhatsApp if anything came up. The walk down the steep hill to the Old City has lovely views, but the climb back is tiring. A taxi up is an easy option. Housekeeping was the weak spot. We were told cleaning was scheduled every three or four days, but asked for it every other day because of the children. The work felt rushed: they mostly straightened the beds, left fresh towels on top, and vacuumed the middle of the floor. We had to ask specifically for the bedding to be changed. After one of the children spilled a drink on the floor, we wiped it up as best we could; when housekeeping came the next day, they swept but left the sticky floor and the bedding as it was. The toilet was unchanged too, and the floor wasn't properly swept or mopped, though a floor towel was put down. Some bedding was stained, one sheet had a hole, and the towels were a mismatched mix of old and new. We had a good time and would recommend the place, but cleanliness and housekeeping need some attention. Other reviews suggest this may not always be the case, so it's just a heads-up for the owners. The family who run this place are lovely, and there's a garage for parking. Our apartment was spotless, with a super comfortable bed, near the Yellow Fortress in the Old Town. It takes 10-15 minutes to walk down to the Old Town, past the Fortress and one of the many cemeteries. The way back is a climb, but well worth it. If you don't fancy walking up, a taxi costs about €2. I can't recommend it enough.

We had a brilliant stay in the annex, which was just right for our family of four. The children had a pull-out sofa bed, and we had a separate bedroom. The fixtures were new and lovely, with a mini fridge in the room and a kettle available. The host was friendly and helpful, always reachable in person or by text, and would replace towels, floor mats, and tea towels daily if you wanted. Toiletries, hand soap, toilet paper, towels, and linen were provided. Free parking inside the property made unloading the car easy. It's in Sarajevo's old town, about a 10-minute walk downhill to the centre and a €2-3 taxi back up. A supermarket, cafes, and a pharmacy are three minutes away. Definitely recommend it.

The owners are great, and the rooms are clean and new. Bascarsija is about a 10-minute walk away, or a €2 taxi ride. If you're visiting Sarajevo, this is a good place to stay.
