Guesthouse Rose

We paid for a Deluxe Double Room through booking, but were given an old-fashioned, poorly kept room in an annex building, while the owners were staying in the building with newer rooms. The furniture was old, the walls cracked, and the linen looked unkempt. We messaged them and got no reply. When my pregnant wife politely asked the owner outside whether we might have been given the wrong room by mistake, he raised his voice at her and kept yelling. She stayed polite throughout. We tried to explain that we had booked and paid for a specific room, and shouldn’t receive something lower quality for the same price just because of his own policy. He said he couldn’t show every room to everyone who asked, but that wasn’t what we’d asked. He told us to go find a hotel if we didn’t want the room, which wasn’t a real solution after a long drive. He never apologized for how he spoke to us. If he’d spoken respectfully, or tried to find a price solution after giving us a lower grade room, it might not have upset us as much. The whole experience was horrific, and the owners came across as rude and aggressive. We felt we’d paid for a good room but received something cheaper. The photos below show what we booked and what we got. His behavior toward a pregnant woman and the way he treated customers were shameful. I had a wonderful stay. The owners are a kind and generous family, and they make you feel at home since it’s their home too. My room was clean, and the terrace was beautiful and nicely shaded.

It’s been almost 12 years since Rose and her son hosted me, but I still remember how amazing the experience was. They were so kind and great hosts, and their house is a perfect base for exploring Sarajevo. I remember peaceful, lovely moments on the balcony. I’ve always wanted to return.

Breakfast was a lovely surprise, with something different every day. The owners are relaxed and really nice, and the quiet place sits on a beautiful hill overlooking Sarajevo.
