We arrived pretty late to check in and had no trouble at all. Breakfast was delicious and filling, and we had an amazing time. The people were welcoming, friendly and helpful, and made us feel at home. The location worked well for us, roughly between the center, airport and main bus station. Walking to the city center took us about 40 minutes; on the way back, trolleybus 103 from the center got us back in 15.

The hostel is a bit out of the way, but we liked getting to see another part of Sarajevo. It’s clean, and the staff alone make it lovely. Rifat, or Gonzo, is super friendly, caring and helpful, and went out of his way for us at every turn. Recommended!

The staff are kind and provide a little breakfast in the tiny entrance passage lobby. We would definitely have appreciated hot water, though. It probably used to be a good, cheap option for bikers or backpackers, but now it really needs some work and maintenance.

I chose the cheapest room because I’m on a shoestring budget, and it left me with a low impression of the building. The layout feels makeshift, with poor design and a hodgepodge of cramped, maze-like spaces. The upmarket room is quite lovely, but the building itself brings the rating down. The people are so friendly and helpful that I’d love to give Hostel Gonzo four stars.

The rooms aren’t the most modern, but that doesn’t matter much with Mr. Gonzo as host. Great communication and hospitality. He’s the best host in Sarajevo.
