Movenpick Hotel Sarajevo

The junior suite made this one of my better hotel stays. It had a whirlpool tub and a view over Sarajevo, though I can't say whether other rooms are like that. The whole place was very clean and classy, with good luxury amenities and a solid breakfast. I also loved their aromatherapy toiletries more than those at any of the many hotels I've visited. 9/10, would recommend.

After ten hotels in Sarajevo, this was the first stay I really enjoyed. Breakfast was the highlight: fresh fruit and vegetables, fresh nuts and dried fruit, lots of pastries, desserts, drinks and other choices. The staff were friendly, polite and helpful, including with our bags and parking. I tried the pool too. It's a moderate size and the facilities are very good. They even have women-only hours, which I thought was a great, forward-thinking touch. I'll definitely come back.

Dinner and breakfast were good, and there's a Konzum nearby for groceries. One evening, while I was showering during our one-night stay, I suddenly felt an eerie presence in the bathroom. It hadn't been there before, and I couldn't tell if it was real or just my imagination. The next morning our guide explained that the hotel is in an area that was part of sniper alley during the war in '92, where many people were wounded and killed. That gave me an explanation for what I'd felt.

Our junior double room was roomy, split into two separate rooms, very clean, and comfortable to sleep in. The hotel is in a quiet spot, with a tram station nearby and the Old Town just a 5-10 minute taxi ride away. They could always call a taxi when we needed one. I stayed six nights at the Mövenpick Hotel, and the experience was mixed. Check-in was polite, but getting through to reception from the room was often difficult. Breakfast was a letdown. Even at 7am the eggs and hash browns were cold, and there wasn't much choice, so we skipped it most mornings. The coffee sachets in our room weren't replenished, and when I asked for milk, they said they couldn't provide any. The hotel needs better reception coverage, a better breakfast and more attention to small guest needs.
