On a cold day, 0 degrees Celsius, I went with my family to Stari Grand Travnik and entered the cafe in front of the old castle for a warm drink. Before I could sit down, an older worker with glasses asked what we wanted. I said we hadn’t had a chance to look at the menu, and he told us the cafe wasn’t a bus station where we could sit without ordering. It was the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced, and the first time I’ve faced blatant racism in Bosnia. It was an unpleasant encounter, and I won’t recommend the place to anyone. Avoid it if you don’t want to experience racism. I wish I could give it less than one star.

The view is beautiful, but the hotel is up a hill, which could be hard for seniors, and the rooms are tiny. The washroom smelled bad, and no one helped with our luggage even when we asked. They might help the first time, but at checkout it feels like you’re expected to give a big tip just to get assistance. Very disappointing.

The rooms were clean, and breakfast had a good range. They prepared eggs four different ways, which you don’t often see in hotels. The coffee from the machine in the breakfast area wasn’t great, though coffee ordered in the restaurant was good, and the juice was too watery.

The rooms and breakfast were great, and the whole stay was wonderful, from arrival through checkout. We stayed one night may 25. Ajdin stood out for his attention to detail and warm, welcoming manner. He was friendly and courteous, among the best I’ve experienced across numerous countries. I’d definitely bring my family next time we visit Bosnia. Thank you!

The reception attitude was rude and arrogant, with no basic hospitality or respect. Café guests were interrogated just for needing to use the toilet. Tourists should be welcomed courteously, not treated like criminals for needing a bathroom. This behavior is disgraceful, embarrassing, and uncivilized, and shows no professionalism. Learn some culture and manners, and treat guests like human beings.
