Sunbay Hotel

Every February I survey the 240 people I bring to Barbados for a bridge tournament. Half stay at Sunbay and half across the street at another hotel, and the February 2026 survey was our best ever. The grounds are lovely, the pool is gorgeous, and the bedrooms are large and comfortable. The owners and management, Mr. Felix Broome, Mrs. Gwen Broome, and their son Adam Broome, are caring and responsive. Guests love the staff, who work hard and bend over backwards to help. The price is reasonable. Don't expect Four Seasons, but you can expect comfort and a team that cares about your stay. If something isn't right, quietly speak up and they'll fix it. A great team!

Our family felt so welcome at this hotel, and the staff were lovely and genuine. Reception, office staff, chambermaids, and catering all looked after us with great care. The chambermaids changed the beds carefully and kept our rooms tidy, and staff opened an adjoining door so we could move easily between rooms. That made our special-needs grandson feel safe, knowing his aunty was next door. The catering team deserve to know they're valued, because breakfast wouldn't be so lovely without them. I'd like to see staff photos in the main lobby and name badges on the catering staff so we know who they are. Thank you all for making our family feel at home, and see you again soon. I wouldn't return or recommend this hotel. Breakfast doesn't start until 7:30 am, and when my colleagues and I asked for takeaway breakfast or an earlier meal for our work trip, they refused, even though we'd paid in advance and the crew get early breakfast. The hotel was full of cruise crew or some other kind of crew, so expect people rolling suitcases and talking loudly outside your room late at night and early in the morning. I found two roaches between a blanket in my room the first night, and rooms are cleaned only every other day. The receptionist working Sunday at 3 pm was very rude. If you're hoping to save a few dollars, you'll pay for it in poor customer service.

The staff were rude and unwelcoming, apart from one tall young woman in the restaurant who was kind. Guests were spoken to disrespectfully, as though they were an inconvenience. The furniture is old, which wouldn't necessarily bother me by itself, but everything felt neglected and extremely dirty. The lack of cleanliness was shocking. I had allergic reactions, likely from dust and what I strongly suspect were dust mites in the room, which made the stay uncomfortable and worrying for my health. Breakfast was disappointing too: you can only have one omelette, and asking for another isn't allowed. Yogurt and some other basic items cost extra, which seems unreasonable for the quality of the hotel. A very unpleasant stay, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
