Hotel Grand Plaza

The on-site restaurant on the ground floor was a real convenience, and I enjoyed the food and dining atmosphere. The hotel offers a comfortable stay in Uttara, with a range of room options. I saw the Single Bed Room, Double Bedroom, and two Triple Bedrooms, and liked the thoughtful decor and comfortable, elegant feel. From the moment I arrived, the hospitality stood out. Staff were professional, warm, and ready to answer questions or share information about the area. My stay at the Grand Plaza Hotel in Uttara -9, near Housebuilding, was memorable. With its well-decorated rooms, restaurant, and helpful service, I’d recommend it to travelers looking for comfort, convenience, and a touch of luxury.

The location is great, but I can’t say the same for the hotel. The rooms were dirty, with stains across the walls and dirty carpets. Service was disappointing, especially for what they charge, which is above medium for the condition of the rooms. I think the staff may be underpaid. They need to make major improvements to both the rooms and service.

We were told when booking that cards were accepted, so we didn’t withdraw cash. At check-in, they said the card machine wasn’t charged, and the desk clerk even had to find a tissue to wipe the dust off it. We had to hand over our last cash, which was our children’s gift money they wanted to take home for their collection. We were short of the full amount, so agreed to pay the remaining balance and food charges in the morning. After our food arrived, the phone rang a few minutes later. We were told to come downstairs to pay the balance, or hand over our card and PIN so they could take the money. The line was crackly, and I couldn’t believe I’d heard that correctly. Then someone knocked, and as we scrambled to put on our hijabs, housekeeping opened the door and came into the room asking for payment. We had to tell him to leave because we weren’t wearing our headscarves. He demanded payment again and said other people usually gave their card and PIN. I refused, then handed over my only remaining £20 note. We asked how much change we should get. He gave us an exchange rate from Google, but my daughter checked and found it was different from what he’d said. He called someone, got the correct rate, and owed us more than he’d taken. He had no change, so we let it go. My daughters were badly shaken and so scared they couldn’t sleep that night. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel at all.

The carpets were so revolting they nearly made me throw up, and I spent the whole night awake on the edge of the bed because the stained sheets and pillows made my skin crawl. They had no clean bedding to replace them. The rooms, stairs, lift, and toilets were filthy. Then a mouse showed up in my room. We couldn’t move to another hotel because we didn’t know the area and had elderly family with us. We booked through Atiya Travels in sylhet, and I won’t use them again.
