Hotel Star Pacific

The lunch was good, and the service was very good too. There’s a pool, gym, room service, rooftop BBQ, coffee shop, and restaurant. Local CNGs, rickshaws, taxis, or private vehicles can get you there, and we received a good promotional discount on the booking. It was our group’s first visit. The lobby made a nice first impression, and the beds looked good, but the bathroom needed cleaning and refurbishment, and the air conditioning needed cleaning. The atmosphere was good, with many guests from the UK and high profile people.

The breakfast was tasteless, the food handling didn’t look hygienic, and the cabinets felt sticky and dirty. Most of all, I was concerned about safety: there was a partly broken electrical cable behind the mirror above the sink, covered only with tape. That’s a serious hazard. The room was nothing like the photos. Its walls were damp and dirty, with peeling paint, and the bathroom smelled bad. The towels didn’t seem clean either. The sink and shower were so close together that the screen touched me while I bathed. I regret booking here. It’s poorly maintained, unsafe, nowhere near three-star standard, and not worth the money. I wouldn’t recommend it.

The room staff were friendly, though the restaurant waiters seemed uninterested. They weren’t rude, at least. One smaller room had a shower corner that was inconvenient and unhygienic. Dust clogged the vents, and one fan was extremely loud. The carpet was disgustingly sticky, and everyone started coughing. I suspect the carpet and air conditioner filters hadn’t been cleaned or replaced. Both rooms felt dated. Neither had a refrigerator or a working TV, and I’m fairly sure I got bitten by bedbugs.

Hotel Star Pacific in Sylhet 3100 has improved compared with before. I’d rate it five stars.
