Nazimgarh Garden Resort

When we arrived, we were told another program was taking place, even though I’d spoken to a man there by phone beforehand. The staff treated us terribly. It was the worst experience of my life, and I’d never go back.

Set in a quirky modern building, Nazimgarh Sylhet is 9 km from Keane Bridge over the Surma River and 13 km from boating at Ratargul Swamp Forest. Being close to the city makes the resort a handy base for places like Jaflong and Lalakhal, whose border-area lakes have beautiful scenery. I didn’t see the whole property, though. The pool was deep, but not clean enough for kids, and the game room was dirty and smelled odd, like it had been neglected. The rooms had plenty of space and big balconies, but the furniture and bathrooms seemed dated and uncomfortable. The restaurant was the low point, with too few staff, slow service, and disappointing food.

We paid BDT 13,000 for a couple room, which felt like too much for what was provided. The food didn’t taste as good as I’d hoped, and seemed overpriced too. I did appreciate that the staff let us check out an hour later since our flight was in the afternoon. Thanks for that. After a long, tiring trip on a hot day, finding that our room’s AC wasn’t working was a letdown, especially at this price. There were very few washroom amenities. The room itself was a good size and in good condition, but the resort didn’t have the charm I expected. There was a pool and a few small activities, but not much to keep us busy. I also couldn’t find nice landscaping or scenic places for family photos, which we usually enjoy on resort stays. I don’t usually leave negative reviews, but I was really disappointed this time. From this stay, I feel The Palace or Grand Sultan give better value and service for a similar or even lower price. I wanted to enjoy Nazimgarh, but it just didn’t measure up.
