Hotel Pilar

We’d had a lovely lunch here some time ago, so that’s what made us decide to stay at the hotel. The room was lovely and the people were friendly. I also got to enjoy my first Aperol Spritz of the season outside in the sunshine. Breakfast was tasty and relaxed.

The rooms are simple but spacious, with thoughtful design details that show the architect’s influence. There’s an espresso machine but no fridge, and both the bed and shower were very comfortable. I’d have liked more flexible lighting than just on or off, and a dry spot near the shower would have been useful. Around the hotel, the neighborhood is charming, with lots of terraces and restaurants, and a tram stop a short walk away that gets you to the city center in 10 minutes. The staff are incredibly friendly. Minimalist design, vintage furniture, graphic art, and the relaxed restaurant atmosphere made it feel like home.

This time we only came for dinner, and it was lovely. Service is attentive, and the dishes look great and taste delicious. The open lasagna and aubergine are full of flavor, the shoestring fries are perfectly seasoned, and the beans and salad go well alongside them. Don’t miss the bread and butter that usually comes with the food. We also ordered cod. I’m vegetarian, so I didn’t try it, but I was told it was great. The rooms are cosy and the location is great too. We always make a point of coming here when we visit Antwerp.

A convenient location and friendly staff. I had the hotel’s “beans and egg” breakfast with a cappuccino, a good start to the day. I’d recommend it if you’re heading to the museum afterwards.
