Sapphire House Antwerp, Autograph Collection

Gonzo is the reason I wanted to write this review. He made sure my wife and I had a wonderful stay, from the warm welcome and helpful recommendations to the chat and walking us to the elevator, a really nice touch. He stayed friendly throughout, remembered us and even our room, and went above and beyond when we came back late one night wanting dessert. He brought us the complimentary chocolates, persuaded the chef to make dessert despite the late hour, then delivered it to our room himself. Thank you, Gonzo! The hotel is beautiful and central to everything. I’ve always enjoyed staying at Marriott, and now I’m glad to add the signature collection, especially Sapphire House, to the list.

We had a spacious room with a comfortable bath, which made the stay very relaxing. The historic building is charming, and Sapphire House Antwerp is in a perfect spot. Everyone on the staff was friendly, welcoming, and well organized. We enjoyed the thoughtfully put together breakfast selection and had a lovely dinner at the bistro. Thanks especially to Zeno and Flor for their wonderful hospitality. Highly recommend!

The sewage smell was the main problem. Our first room was unbearable when we arrived, and reception kindly moved us, but the second room started smelling on day two as well. It seemed to affect more than one room. When we raised it, we were told it was a general Antwerp problem, which I found hard to believe. The airco also made noise even when switched off. There were good points: the hotel has charm and feels cosy and comfortable, the bed was huge and nicely firm, and breakfast was good, though I expected a bit more from this type of hotel. Its central Antwerp location made it easy to walk to all the nicest spots. Decent value, but not the special Valentine’s stay we’d hoped for. We’ll try somewhere else next time.

The hotel's original, stylish décor gives it a clear identity, and its central location works well for business or leisure. We were greeted warmly and professionally, with genuine attention. A wonderful discovery, and one I highly recommend!
