The bathroom, bed, and Wi-Fi were good, and the rooms were very clean. Most of the staff were friendly, but the manager was very unfriendly and only seemed to listen to himself. He wouldn't even look at our booking, which said parking was available, and the car park we'd booked wasn't available. Booking.com wasn't available either. Maybe Hotel de France uses the parking filter to look more attractive.

I only needed a bed for a few nights as a solo traveler, and this place suited me perfectly. The rooms are simple, clean, and comfortable, and the staff are friendly and ready to help. It’s a short walk to Midi station and Lemmonier, with connections to grand place. Booking in advance gets you a good price. I think it’s best in the cooler months, December through March. In hot weather, it could be pretty uncomfortable.

The hallways smelled of drugs, and the whole place felt really run down. The hotel was very small, and I got an itchy feeling from the bed. Between 2 and 4 AM, there was a strange noise from the room next door where a couple were staying. The managers and reception did nothing about it, so we barely slept.

We arrived very spontaneously at midnight and were given a really tidy, clean room. Nothing to complain about!

The noise was constant through the day, including drilling, so it was impossible to relax. The room was extremely basic and much too small for the price, and the hotel is quite far from the city centre, which made the stay even less convenient. Over 200€ for one night was absolutely unjustified for this quality. I'd rather pay a reasonable price for a basic hostel than stay at this "hotel".
